Downtown to the Zoo by Train

Duration: 15 minutes
Operation: Mon – Sun, 5:00 to midnight
The train leaves every 5 – 15 minutes.
If you don’t already have a valid TriMet ticket, you’ll need to purchase one from a ticket terminal. Adult 2-zone tickets are good for 2 hours and cost $2. TriMet tickets, while valid, are good for use on both the Train, Trolley, and Bus.

The trip from downtown to the Zoo is accomplished by riding the train (MAX). Board the train at SW 10th and Morrison.  Be sure to purchase and validate your ticket prior to boarding the train.  Your trolley ticket can be used if the time has not expired.  Be sure you are taking a train to Beaverton or Hillsboro. Listen or watch for the Oregon Zoo station where you will want to get off.

Remember to validate your ticket before you get on the Max.

TriMet’s MAX Light Rail system connects Portland, Gresham, Beaverton, Hillsboro, the Portland Airport and soon Oregon City. Whether you catch the train at the Washington Park Zoo or Downtown near the Central Library, the ride includes part of the 3-mile-long Robertson Tunnel. In addition to being the only completely under-ground station in the MAX system, the Zoo station is also the deepest station in North America and second deepest in the world (after Moscow’s Park Pobedy at 318 ft/97 m).  The Oregon Zoo station is located 260 feet underground.  You will need to take an elevator to the surface.

The deepest train stop in the country!

Because you are headed to the Zoo, take either the Red Line or Blue Line going west. Trains board at SW 10th and Morrison. Fare is $2 for adults, or $1.50 for youth, and also covers riding the trolley or bus for two hours after purchase. The train leaves every five to fifteen minutes.
